MSCPA's Environmental Policy

Environmental stewardship is not a novel concept for MSCPA. Its precedence was set in motion over 30 years ago amidst the vision of establishing sustainability for the future. The communities in which MSCPA has served and operated within are among the same communities in which MSCPA employees have called “home.” Compliance with environmental regulation is merely an obligation to make these communities, and earth alike, as clean and safe as possible.

Involvement

Picture
Along with investing in efficient technologies, MSCPA has taken advantage of zero-emission generation facilities. Collaboration with the existing hydroelectric facilities within the member community of Marshall has proven to be a lasting and efficient renewable resource.

Future Initiative

Existing hydroelectric generating facilities located in Menominee, MI and Oconto Falls, WI, will be contributing 9,500 KW to the agency’s power supply by 2014. MSCPA has also committed to the purchase 20 MW from a hydroelectric development project through American Municipal Power (AMP). These projects, known as: Cannelton, Greenup, Meldahl, Smithland and Willow Island will be online by 2015.

In the future, MSCPA will approach any regulations of the electric industry with the same degree of foresight and careful planning evidenced in other aspects of Agency management. MSCPA is dedicated to fulfilling the dream of its founding members – to be a public utility providing the best possible electric service at the best possible prices – in active partnership with the community to promote a more prosperous, environmentally safe and rewarding life for all.
